The Diamond iPhone4 Is A Stunner
10/18/2010 3:56:45 AM Simona Kogan
At 5 million pounds (about $8 million), the Apple iPhone 4 with diamonds is known as the most expensive mobile phone in the world.
It has 500 individual flawless cut diamonds worth 100 carats and was designed by British designer Stuart Hughes. It has two diamonds placed on the home button, that can be swapped and interchanged. The two diamonds, one single is plated with rose gold.
It's more expensive than the $20,000 iPhone 4G Diamond Edition that came out in the summer. This one was encrusted with 6.5 carats of high quality diamonds. The limited edition iPhone only had 50 models in the world.
Diamonds are also encrusted around the edge of the iPhone, which is a great, albeit expensive, way to ensure that the antenna reception is good. Hughes says he was brought on to produce two of these for a wealthy Australian businessman. Hughes announced he would only make two, so these really are one-of-a-kind.
"It was a fantastic challenge," Hughes said, "and I am pleased with the end result, the phones look superb. Phones are so popular at the moment and this is the ultimate design for one. It's a very exciting project."
In May, Hughes created a golden iPad worth 130,000 pounds and before that, he produced a golden Nintendo Wii worth 300,000 pounds. A year ago, he produced a gold-and-diamond–studded iPhone 3GS with a 2 million pound cost.
The 2 million 3GS was also produced for a rich Australian and publications are wondering if this is the same one who commissioned the diamond-encrusted iPhone4.
