Spike TV, a division of MTV Networks, has announced the upcoming release of a new series it has picked up, “Diamond Divers.” Season 1, comprised of ten episodes, has already been scheduled. The show is in production and will premiere in the fall of 2012. The series is produced by Studio Lambert, which also produces “The Pitch” and “Undercover Boss” and specializes in producing engaging non-scripted programs for international audiences.
The show follows a rugged American nautical crew from Washington state hired by Panda Marine, an international company that specializes in marine mining, to the Skeleton Coast—an area off the coast of South Africa named after its many shipwrecks and the ghosts of sailors and known for extremely rough waters and shipwrecks. The crew is followed as they search for diamonds and lost treasure and during their diamond mining activities.
The crew will undertake life threatening expeditions in shark-infested waters to locate diamonds. The show will depict the dangers of the voyage and the relationship dramas and dynamics between the crew members.
The nautical team is led by the tough and rugged Captain John. Other crew members include the captain’s son, a mechanic, an expert diver, and a medic.
