San Francisco Giants Designing Diamond Championship Ring

Now that the Giants baseball team have moved to San Francisco, they're designing their own championship king. While the team is not exactly sure what the ring will look like yet, they do know for sure that it will include
diamonds and be nothing short of extravagant.
Giants senior vice president for communications Staci Slaughter says they are starting the process to look for the right company to make the ring. They are still trying to figure out what symbols and words to use that say something about San Francisco and the Giants, how many and what types of diamonds and gemstones to use, how much to spend on each ring, what symbols and metals to use, and how many models they should make.
"Definitely over the last several years, the rings have had more of a bling factor," said Donald Percenti, chairman of Texas-based American Achievement Corp., which produced last year's Giants rings and creates championship rings under the Balfour name.
Balfour will be creating a prototype ring for the Giants to try to win the contract. The rings will take five to seven weeks to be completed after the Giants pick a company and design for the ring.
The Giants will be receiving their rings before a home game in April.
The New York Giants created the first World Series ring after beating the New York Yankees in 1922. The ring was modest, with only a single diamond on top. A single jewel was the normal thing to do until 1977 when the Yankees set a dozen diamonds on the NY abbreviation on their ring.
When they won the 2009 World Series, the NY Yankees were presented with a championship ring featuring 119 diamonds and worth 3.5 carats. It included symbols molded into gold.
The most expensive championship rings ever made are reportedly the Florida Marlins 2003 rings which included 13 rubies and 229 diamonds, 22 of which create the body of the fish on top.
