Rare Diamond To Be Auctioned Off

A rare diamond pendant is going to be auctioned off at jeweler Mondial Neuman – and guess what? It’s pink!
The high end jewelry company has promised to give the money it raises from the auction to an indigenous charity.
The pendant is a rare piece of jewelry because it was the first of a series of one hundred pendants to be manufactured. Each piece is numbered and certified – this piece has the number 1 engraved in to it. The pendant is pave set, rose gold and it has about one and a third carats of Argyle pink diamonds.
Argyle designed the pendants in order to honor their 25th diamond mine anniversary. The collection was specifically intended to be one of a kind and never repeated.
Co-owner of Modian Neuman (who is also a gemologist) discussed his feelings about receiving the pendant to be auctioned off.
“We are extremely honoured to have received the #1 pendant and we predict it will be in very high demand, so we decided to auction it for a greater cause,” said the executive.
They have decided that any monies they raise from the auction will be donated to the indigenous education program, Gawura. The decision has been part of a movement to support literacy and various different programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children at the St. Andrews Cathedral School in Sydney, Australia.
About their choice of charity, he also said, “We’ve chosen to donate the entire proceeds to Gawura because we feel strongly about sharing our good fortune in having been awarded pendant #1 and are keen to do something positive for the indigenous community…Health and education are major indigenous issues and Gawura is a local initiative doing great work in education and [it is] worthy of more support.”
David North, the head of Gawura, discussed how happy and thankful he was for the financial help he will be getting.
“On average, it costs more than $800,000 a year to run the Gawura schooling programme for 39 students from kindergarten to Year 12, with approximately 30 per cent [of the money] from the government, so we’re extremely grateful to Mondial Neuman for donating all of its proceeds from the auction to Gawura,” he explained.
On May 3rd, the auction will take place at Mondial Neuman in the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney, Australia.
