diamond tapAs part of the Diamond Jubilee commemorations--Queen Elizabeth II's 60th year on the throne--a UK bathroom equipment manufacturer is creating a diamond water tap which will be the most expensive tap in the world.

According to the tap's manufacturer, Inta, the $48,000 tap will be comprised of 10 heirloom quality 10-carat diamonds, and smaller sized polished diamonds, and will be presented to the queen during a special party in June at the company's  Staffordshire, UK, headquarters.

"Our Diamond Jubilee tap will feature 60 diamonds in total and we're confident that it could grace any of the royal palace bathrooms. We're hoping it will be the most fitting, if not ostentatious tribute to Her Majesty this year," said Cynthia Fisher,  commercial director of Inta.

The tap is also commemorative of Inta's tenth anniversary and the company may also market the tap, or one similar to it, to the luxury market. A headline on the company website reads:  Inta Introduces the World's Blingest Tap for the Diamond Jubilee.

"Yes, this tap is incredibly flamboyant, but some customers have more money than style and we do like to cater for the high end market too," said Fisher.

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations will center around a weekend in early June, 2012. As part of the events that mark the celebration, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be visiting England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
