Pink Diamond Pin To Raise Money For Breast Cancer Research

3/12/2009 9:38:50 AM  Richard Parker

pink-diamonds-breast-cancerCarats Direct of Vancouver, British Columbia has partnered up with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to raise money for Breast Cancer Research and Awareness.  Eight limited edition pins with a rare pink diamond will be sold, and all profits will be given to the CBCF.  The pins, designed by VCC student and breast cancer survivor Kim Balsillie, are shaped like the traditional pink breast cancer ribbon, but feature a rare pink diamond on each.  The pins, valued at $6,800 will be auctioned off at the Nights of Hope fundraiser on April 2 in Richmond, British Columbia.

The pins, intended for anyone whose life has been touched by breast cancer, are made of solid 18-carat white gold.  Carats Direct contributed the pink diamonds.  Said Angela Dearie, President of Carats Direct, "As Canada's leading distributor of pink diamonds, it was a natural fit for us to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, who use the colour pink to raise awareness about breast cancer...we're particularly pleased to work with Kim Balsillie.  She has a bright future ahead in jewelry design."  The designer's sketch of the "2020" pin was seen for the first time at a reception by Dearie, CBCF Chair Greg D'Avignon, and Nights of Hope Founder Judi Miller.

Linda Morris, CEO of the the CBCF, BC/Yukon region notes that, "Partnerships are key for us at the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.  They will enable us to reach our goal of seeing a future without breast cancer by 2020, and it's also with partners such as Carats, with their communication and support, that we can fund innovative research, education, and awareness programs."

Josephine Archer, Sales and Marketing Manager of Argyle Pink Diamonds, was at the reception and talked about the rare gems, which are, on the average, 20 times more valuable than white diamonds.  Carats Direct is the only Canadian Select Authorized Partner for Argyle Pink Diamond distribution.

These limited edition pins will only be available at www.Carats.com, for $6,800 beginning on April 1.  There will be a waiting list.
