$500,000 in Diamonds Stolen in North Dallas Heist

12/17/2008 7:52:07 AM  Richard Dawson

On Thursday, a New York City Diamond Broker was robbed of $500,000 worth of diamonds in North Dallas.  The broker, a 28 year-old employee of Trapz, LLC, had just gotten into his car when the thieves approached.

Another car pulled up behind him, blocking him in, and a man got out to smash the broker’s driver’s side window.  Another man smashed the passenger side window, displaying a knife as the two took three bags of diamonds and some of the broker’s personal belongings.  The broker was not injured in the robbery.

This is just the latest in a series of jewelry thefts in the Dallas area.  Dallas police investigators believe that the heists are the work of one group of professional jewel thieves.  They conceal their identities and move quickly.  Brokers traveling from New York City’s Diamond District are warned to be particularly cautious as the thieves are believed to be tracking them from the minute they leave New York.
