Naomi Campbell and blood diamonds don't go in the same sentence.
Guess supermodel Naomi Campbell's not as worried about her blood diamonds testimony as she previously let on.
The model, who once appeared with Michael Jackson in his music video In The Closet, was previously subpoenaed to The Hague in the Netherlands to provide material evidence that former Liberian president Charles Taylor had given her non conflict-free diamonds at an event at the home of former South African president Nelson Mandela in 1997. Campbell was completely against doing the testimony, calling it "inconvenient" and tried to have her appearance removed, then postponed from July 29 to August 5.
In the mean time, it wasn't inconvenient for her to take a break near the Sardinian Sea with Russian billionaire boyfriend Vladimir Doronin and friends.
Next, Woody Allen's ex, actress Mia Farrow testified that Campbell was indeed given diamonds as a gift and boasted about them the day after she received them.
Later, Campbell's former agent Carole White repeated the accusations but Taylor's lawyer Courtenay Griffiths accused her of presenting a pack of lies in her testimony. He said that she was using it to boost her own lawsuit against Campbell where she claims the supermodel owes her about $600,000 over the past two years.
While all this was going on, Naomi Campbell reportedly at a party on a yacht with Shutter Island actor Leonardo DiCaprio and his on-again girlfriend Sports Illustrated model Bar Refaeli, singer Janet Jackson, producer Quincy Jones, American Beauty actor Kevin Spacey, Topshop head Sir Philip Green and diamond merchant Fawaz Gruosi. The party was hosted in Porto Cervo, Sardinia by Doronin.
Ironically, Campbell was seen joking around with Israeli model Refaeli and DiCaprio, who appeared in the 2006 film Blood Diamond, a documentary that looked in on the illegal gems trade from war zones in Africa.
Charles Taylor is being accused of swapping guns to rebels in Sierra Leone in exchange for uncut diamonds during the country's 10-year civil war beginning in 1992. He is said to have armed, trained, and commanded rebels to kill and torture thousands of civilians but has pleaded not guilty to his 11 war crime charges which include murder, rape, and recruitment of child soldiers.
Campbell claims she received rocks but didn't know what they were, while Farrow says she actually boasted about the uncut diamonds the next morning.
