Lab-Grown Diamonds Used in Belgian Jewellery Exhibit

Belgian Jewellery Designer Danielle Goffa unvelied her new collection, which features pieces containing lab-grown diamonds. The exclusive event was held at Hanger 311 in Mechelan, Belgium. The collection, which featured 44 pieces, were hand-crafted by Goffa in silver or gold, and each piece displays synthetic diamonds in yellow, orange, and pink.
According to Goffa, "This is the first time I have used diamonds in any of my designs and I chose to use lab-grown diamonds due to their beauty, variety, and the flexibility that they offer." She is one of the first famous jewellery designers to feature lab-grown diamonds in her work, and she is proud of it.
The polisher of the diamonds, Thierry Silber of Diamaz International, co-sponsored the ground-breaking event, saying that it was "more than we ever could have hoped for and with more than 700 people in attendance, it proves to me that lab-grown diamonds have a legitimate place in the diamond industry."
Prior to this, lab-grown diamonds have been seldom used in jewelry, as their value is far less than that of regular diamonds. They take only 2 weeks to produce, while naturally-occurring diamonds form over millions of years within the earth's crust. With the global recession bringing the diamond industry difficult times, the use of synthetic diamonds might be a way to keep stores alive.
Goffa's collection will be on display each weekend throughout March at the Schoten Castle in Antwerp.
