Diamonds Jewelry Designed To Fight Breast Cancer

Last month marked the 23rd anniversary of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  It began in 1985 by AstraZeneca, the pharmaceutical company that manufactured the most common treatments.  They began to stress the importance of mammography and prevention over the need for a cure.  In 1991, the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons to participants in the New York City race for breast cancer survivors.  In 1993, when Estee Lauder founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the pink ribbon became an international symbol for the cause.  All over the world, there are Races for the Cure, Walks for the Cure, the Race for Life, and so on.  According to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the first race in 1983 had 800 participants, but now there are over 1.5 million worldwide.

A New York jewelry designer and breast cancer survivor, Neda Benham, announced that her new venture, “Diamonds for the Cure™”, would join countless other businesses and designers who raise money for breast cancer research.  According to marketwire.com, “Diamonds for the Cure™” includes a “Think Pink” collection, which range in price from a few hundred dollars for a rough diamond pendant to $2,500.00 for a 4-carat natural pink diamond set in rose-colored gold.  From this collection, a portion of the profits go to the prevention and cure of breast cancer, which affects 1 in 8 American women.
