Diamond-Studded Watch Tells Women--Not Men--When To Shop
3/31/2009 8:10:19 AM SB Gannon
A new watch designed by Swiss watch manufacturer Girard-Perregaux allows the wearer to switch between time zones to see when the best shopping districts in the world are open. Called the ‘ww,tc 24 Hour Shopping’ watch, it is the women’s version of Girard-Perregaux’s ‘ww.tc Financial’ watch, which has the ability to track the opening and closing times of world financial markets.
The left crown moves the outermost ring to switch between time zones, and popular shopping destinations are mentioned at each of the time zone indicators. Some of the shopping districts shown on the watch are Madison Avenue in New York, Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Bond Street in London, Faubourg Saint-Honore in Paris, the Ginza in Tokyo, Tsum in Moscow, and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The watch includes a power reserve indicator and 24-hour ring with day and night designators. On the dial and bezel are over 80 brilliant diamonds. With a mother of pearl dial and onyx cabochon in the crown, and a fancy alligator band, this watch has won the title of “Most Beautiful Watch” at the 9th Edition of the “Prix Officiel de la Revue des Montres 2008”, a watch and jewellery exhibition organized by “Les Editions Jalou”.
The ‘ww.tc 24 Hour Shopping’ watch, however beautiful, brings gender stereotyping to a whole new, expensive level, costing almost $30,000. It is an item for the truly wealthy shopper.
