Diamond Studs a Fashion Statement for Both Men and Women

Diamond stud earrings have been a fashion staple since the first time someone took a shiny stone and wrapped a few prongs around it.  They make a universally-appreciated gift for anyone, with little concern for carat weight.  No one really needs to have 5-carat diamonds stretching their earlobes to the ground.  They range from affordable for everyone to accessible only by the extremely wealthy.

Celebrities have been showing off simple diamond studs since Marilyn Monroe.  They weren’t ostentatious.  They weren’t pink.  They were just diamonds, and they were beautiful.  They make a statement without screaming for attention.

At the 2007 Golden Globes, Penelope Cruz chose a pair of diamond studs instead of the long, chandelier-style earrings that have been so trendy lately.  At the 2008 SAG Awards, Kate Beckinsale wore a stunning pair by Van Cleef & Arpels, and Christina Applegate displayed a complete set of studs, diamond and platinum bracelet, diamond right-hand ring, and diamond and platinum hair clips by Neil Lane.  These smaller earrings definitely prove that ‘less is more’.

At the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, diamond studs seemed to be the accessory of the night.  Nicky Hilton matched hers with stacked diamond bangles and a diamond cuff.  But it was truly the men who proved that diamond studs aren’t just for women.  Among the men wearing them that night were actor Jamie Foxx, hip-hop icons LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, and Akon, recording artists Chris Brown, Cee Lo and Ne-Yo, and basketball star Kobe Bryant.  Most of the men wore a diamond on only one ear, with the notable exception of hip-hop mogul, recording artist, producer, and clothing designer Sean “Diddy” Combs, who proudly donned a matched set.

But you need not be famous to wear them.  They are available and affordable to anyone, male or female, rich or poor.  They are an effortless way to show elegance without going overboard.
