Diamond Polisher Murder At Late Night Drinking Party

7/21/2010 7:34:19 AM  Simona Kogan

Diamonds weren't this man's best friend.

A young diamond polisher named Sumit Sevanti  was found on the fourth floor terrace of a diamond polishing unit in the Sneh Mudra Society of Surat, India early Tuesday morning.  He had severe head injuries and died of bleeding.

Police quickly ruled out suicide though the murderers dragged the body from the room and tried to throw the body to the fourth floor to make it look like Sevanti killed himself.

Police said Sevanti and his murderers were probably friends and consumed liquor together after work in the polishing unit.  Neighbors nearby confirmed hearing sounds of a loud gathering.

The murderer or murderers (who were not named) believe that Sevanti was hit in the head with the heavy iron plate of a diamond polishing machine after arguing with his friends and died around 4am.  Everyone was still drunk, which is why police believe that the murder was so hastily cleaned up and hidden.

Diamond polisher murders seem to be nothing new in Surat, although they haven't been so easily to solve in the past.  Back in May, police had a difficult time solving the mystery of a recent murder case where Akshay Gamit was killed at a diamond polishing unit at Mini Bazaar in Varachha.

Police questioned friends of Gamit after the incident and realized that the murderer had permission from Gamit and the unit's owner Alpesh Navadiya to open the wooden door entrance and iron grill which later turned into the murder weapon.

The murderer or murderers had the intention of killing Gamit for the purpose of grabbing diamonds.  Police reported that rough diamonds were missing from the unit.

If this rough diamonds murder mystery was ever solved, the answer was never published online.  Let's hope that's not the case and we get some answers for Sumit Sevanti.
