October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and jewelry designers are creating pieces and collections specifically for the cause. While the designs vary greatly, the common thread is that a portion of the proceeds will help to fund breast cancer research and education. In 2008, jewelry designer Neda Behnam—a breast cancer survivor herself—launched Diamonds for a Cure (DFAC). Her collection this year is called the “Lucky 7”. There are 7 pieces, available in 18-karat yellow gold, rose gold, or sterling silver. Each piece is set with diamonds, and the prices range from $499 to $3,000. A percentage of each sale will go to Stand Up To Cancer.

Verragio, an upscale designer specializing in engagement rings and wedding bands, is giving away 10 engagement rings on the heels of a previous successful promotion. The last giveaway, for 5 lucky winners, ended in December 2009. Winners would have their rings selected for them from the Verragio Couture, Insignia, Paradiso, and Classico collections. The rules of for this were fairly simple. All contestants needed to do was visit Verragio’s website and select their favorite ring designs. Then, after becoming a “fan” of Veraggio’s Facebook page, upload the design to the Verragio page, giving the style number and leaving a comment about the engagement ring. The promotion was a huge success and the company gained a lot of new page views and fans.
