Christie’s Hong Kong is holding a Magnificent Jewels sale on November 29. Highlights include the largest pair of diamonds ever to be offered at auction— round brilliant-cut D flawless diamonds (internally and externally flawless) that weigh approximately 35 carats each.

Pre-auction estimates for the Christie's diamonds are $7-$9 million each. The diamonds have made a media buzz and were previously exhibited at the Guggenheim in New York.

The diamonds originate from South Africa and are rated as “Triple Excellent” for their symmetry, polish, and cut grade. They have been designated  “Type IIa”, the most chemically pure form of a diamond that exhibits exceptional transparency. According to Christie’s, each diamond is about the size of a cherry tomatoe and the stones were cut from separate rough diamonds, each weighing over 100 carats, by leading diamond manufacturer and trader Forevermark Diamantaire Steinmetz (The Steinmetz Diamond Group).

“To find large pieces of colorless rough within the same timeframe represents an extremely rare occurrence…to combine that with the vision to obtain a closely matched pair raises the project to new heights,” said Christie’s.

The Magnificent Jewels auction is estimated to reap $75 million in sales and will be held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. Other auction highlights include jewels by Harry Winston, including an emerald and diamond brooch with an auction estimate of $2– $3 million, a pearl necklace estimated at $1.6-$2.25 million, and a jadite pendant necklace estimated at $2-$3 million.
