Kirtilals Designs Diamond-Encrusted Crown for Indian God

Kirtilals-Designs-Diamond-CrownKirtilals, a world-famous jewelry design house, has created a piece truly worthy of a god.  The crown, fashioned for the Indian god Lord Balaji, required the work of 55 expert craftspeople for 8 months.  The piece is made of 30kg of gold and 35,554 round brilliant diamonds totaling 3,105.04 carats.

The design uses both geometric and floral motifs.  The base is adorned with a three-dimensional lotus blossom symbolizing pure knowledge and the creation of the universe.  The lotus is centered around an 816-carat emerald, onto which patterns of flowers and an extraordinarily ornate border build into a peacock feather.

The diamonds are all Belgian-cut round brilliants, processed at Kirtilals and set in the traditional Indian technique of closed setting.  Kirtilals has a long history of creating jewelry for temples both in India and abroad.  These include the crown of Lord Ayyappa in Sabarimala Temple, Kerala Temple, and Murugan Temple.
