In an effort to bring attention to the causes they represent, twelve Hollywood A-listers have signed on the design gold jewelry for auction.  The proceeds will benefit such causes as children’s health, America’s hungry, and the cleaning of the world’s water supplies.  Bidding for the pieces will be done online at LeavesOfChange.org. 

“Since the beginning of civilization, gold jewelry has held a powerful emotional place in global culture,” states Duvall O’Steen, spokesperson for the World Gold Council.  “It’s exciting to capitalize on gold’s profound and enduring emotional significance by supporting so many worthy causes. 

Susan Sarandon, Chris Noth, Whoopi Goldberg, Pauletta and Denzel Washington, Debra Messing, Marcia Gay Harden, Brooke Shields, Eric McCormack and Christina Applegate are among the actors who have designed gold pieces for the auction.  Each design has a leaf motif, and the actors were able to work side-by-side with jewelry designers to create their work. 

Each jewelry designer donated their time to create three pieces from the celebrity sketches.  One is for the celebrity, one will be auctioned off for its designated charity, and one will travel from July to December to 16 different cities to raise awareness for the multiple causes they are helping. 

Using the inspiration of nature and the beauty of gold, Leaves of Change aims to send a message of hope in these trying economic times.  Having celebrities and well-known master goldsmiths donate time to the cause will serve to bring further attention to these important causes.
