A New Exhibit Displays 25 Amazing Diamonds
A new exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, featuring an impressive array of diamond color.

On of the diamonds is an intense pink brilliant, set in gold with small pink diamonds. It comes from the Argyle Mine in Australia and is designed by Calvin French.

Another diamond, an impressive round, brilliant-cut 5.4 carat is on display, surrounded by 20 sapphires in white gold setting.

Five vivid, colored diamonds from the Olympia Diamond Collection are also displayed. They range in dazzling color: blue-green, orange-yellow, purplish-pink, blue, and orange gems. The colored diamond collection is on loan from Scarselli Diamonds and curated by gemologist Joshua Sheby.

In addition, a showcase of man-made diamonds shows the different processes used by two leading manufacturers, Apollo Diamond and Gemesis Corporations.

Apollo creates diamonds using a chemical vapor deposition technique. Specifically, diamonds are produced by adding a gas mixture to a heated chamber containing a “seed.” The display presents the various stages of growth.

Gemesis produces laboratory-grown diamonds using a high-pressure, high-temperature technique. On display will be uncut and cut diamonds, as well as a cultured pearl necklace with a pendant featuring a 2.01 carat yellow diamond surrounded by natural white diamonds.

Entrance to the exhibit is free with museum admission.
